This statement gives context and explanation to the incredibly hard decision we have had to make in postponing the 2020 Cheltenham Half Marathon, 10km and Community Mile Events until Sunday 5 September 2021

We’ve tirelessly evaluated all options and have concluded that postponing the event until next year is the most responsible course of action to ensure we deliver a high quality, safe, sustainable and unforgettable event. Our top priority is the health of participants, volunteers, supporters and local residents, along with delivering an outstanding event experience for our runners.

Although the event is still 4 months away, none of us know when this pandemic will be brought under control. There is talk of social distancing measures being in place for a considerable amount of time and a second peak of the virus is anticipated at some point. As a result of the uncertainty and concern around Covid-19 our event registrations have been massively impacted, with less than half the number we would have expected by this time signed up. Not only does this have a huge financial impact – the stark reality is if we don’t hit our target numbers the event will not survive, and we will not be able to deliver it in future years – it will also impact the event you experience. Lower numbers will have a detrimental effect on the atmosphere and exceptional race day experience we aim to provide. By making the decision early, fewer costs have been incurred, and so we are able to offer a range of options for you as a runner (detailed below).

We are really sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding, passion, enthusiasm and dedication in the lead up to the event. We know how hard you have trained, fundraised, and how much you were looking forward to the big day. We are committed to making the 2021 event the biggest and best Cheltenham Half ever, and with the addition of the 10km option we know we can do this. We hope that you will join us for what promises to be an outstanding event!

What do I need to do now?

  • Nothing - your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date of 5 September 2021
